asphaleia launches foster care fortnight campaign

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

fcf_logo1_purple1Well, here we go! The UK’s biggest annual campaign to raise the profile of fostering began yesterday and asphaleia are ready to do our bit.

Under the strapline fostering: time to care, this year’s campaign will highlight the urgent need for more foster carers and call on everyone to get behind fostering and support children in care.

The fortnight lasts until 29th May.

During the fortnight, asphaleia will be holding events to promote this campaign. Specifically, we want to celebrate our carers and their families and recruit 10 new foster carers - which is going to be a challenge, but we are up for it and ready!

asphaleia will be sending our carers and their families to Chessington for the day, raising our local profile by featuring on Splash FM (more details to come soon) and running a promotional event in Worthing town centre on May 28th.

To find out more about becoming a foster carer with asphaleia please contact the fostering team on 01903 236522 or visit our website http://www.asphaleia.co.uk/ventures/fostering.html. If you would like to come along to an informal information evening on 1st June 2011 at 7.30pm, please contact melissabiggs@asphaleia.co.uk to book a place.

For the second year running, asphaleia fostering are sponsoring Anyone4Theatre’s (A4T) Easter performances and will be running an information stand at their shows later this month.

A4T was founded in 2006 and is a local not for profit children’s theatre group who make drama, dance, singing and performing accessible to any child in the local community. Whatever their talents; be it performing, costume, make up, sound, lighting, props or just generally helping out, all children are welcome.

Their latest performance, Seussical the Musical will take place on 20th and 21st April at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing. For more information on purchasing tickets, please visit their website: www.anyone4theatre.com.

asphaleia fostering are once again thrilled to be able to support a fantastic local children’s group, as well as provide information for anyone who may be interested in fostering with us. Hope to see you there…!

asphaleia fostering sponsors childrens theatre company

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

asphaleia fostering is now a sponsor of Anyone4Theatre?, a Worthing based not-for-profit theatre group for children who love to sing, dance and act - but might be unable to afford expensive schools in the area.

Over the next year, asphaleia fostering will attend A4T shows and special events in a bid to find new foster carers to add to our ever growing team.

“There are many, many young people out there who need foster carers,” explains fostering manager Carol Lusher. “There remains a national shortage of foster carers, and we want to try and impact as many young people and children as we can, by providing high quality foster care placements. We can’t do that without the right people, so that’s why we are getting out and about over the next year to try and find them!”

This week, A4T are performing two shows at The Barn Theatre in Southwick and asphaleia fostering will be there.

Feel free to come and see our stand at the three remaining shows tonight, and tomorrow afternoon and evening and find out if fostering with asphaleia could be something for you.

Oh what a night!

Monday, October 11th, 2010

This weekend saw the asphaleia 10 year ball finally arrive - and what a great night it was!

asphaleia staff (old and new), friends, family and special guests took over the Brighton Hilton Metropole on Saturday night to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We were joined by The Get Up Band, who kept many of our 180 guests grooving away on the dance floor for most of the night.

Party goer Glenn said: “Many thanks for a great night on Saturday - all the planning and hard work paid off as it was a great evening. The band and disco were brilliant - the only thing that let it down was Chief Executive Dave’s dancing, the like of which Brighton has not seen since the 1970s!”

As well as the band, guests were treated to a wealth of entertainment including fun casino, a photobooth, surfboard simulator, DJ and party bags on every table.

“The ball was such a wonderful evening,” says event organiser Hayley Cottrell. “I am so pleased the photobooth and casino were popular, as these items raised money for our charity.

“A real highlight for me was seeing everyone on the dance floor enjoying the band. They were my favourite part of the night by far, although my feet paid a high price - I am definitely in need of a few days to recover!”

On the night we raised over £1500 for our charity through the casino, photobooth, Champagne auction and raffle with one lucky guest going home with a flat screen TV. Thanks to all the companies who donated raffle prizes.

And finally, thanks to all those who came! What a fabulous night and a brilliant way to celebrate our 10th birthday. Before you know it, we’ll be celebrating our 20th!

Foster carers achieve CDWC standards!

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

In 2008 the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) introduced standards for all foster carers to achieve within their first year of fostering.

“Achieving the CWDC standards is a daunting prospect to many, so we have supported our foster carers during our monthly training meetings to work through these standards”, fostering manager Carol Lusher explains.

This year 9 carers have successfully achieved the CWDC standards, with asphaleia fostering being featured on the CWDC website.

asphaleia fostering would like to say a big well done to all our foster carers who have achieved the standards this year!
